Very, very excitingly, my coworkers at Digital Evolution Group (@digitalev) executed a Helzberg Diamonds‘ (@helzberg) email with a personalized animated gif. If you receive Helzberg’s emails, this particular email deployed on 17 August 2011.
I have never (never!) seen a personalized animated gif in an email.

Update 28 September 2011: Helzberg has reported these excellent metrics for this campaign:
- 288% increase in sales over previous Expressions campaigns
- 55% higher open rate
- 85% higher click through rate than other promotional campaigns
